Ordering personal checks with free shipping is usually a less expensive way to buy checks. There are many sources for ordering checks that are shipped to you, and usually U. S. Mail is the carrier for these printing companies.
There are many reports of mail order check printers delivering quality checks that banks can process without a problem. Occasionally, some companies provide poor quality checks because the 1800 checks per minute reader cannot process the paper or read the routing code. Either the paper or the ink is of poor quality. Of course, it would not take long to learn about this problem from the bank, but meanwhile the problem becomes a hassle. Some poor quality check printers are identified online.
There is another problem with these checks, and that is the identity of the person ordering the checks is not guarded as well as the bank’s check printing company guards identity. There is a matter of privacy, however, that is not adhered to by the banks’ printer and by some independent printers that sell through the mail.
When checks are ordered from Deluxe or a company owned by Deluxe, they send personal information on the account holder to Chexsystems and to Deluxe’s collection agencies. Deluxe has a lot of personal information on people obtained from check ordering including account number, address, phone number, and sometimes more information.
Occasionally, a person’s checking account was closed by their bank for an overdrawn account. Even though the person paid the overdraft, their bank closed the account and reported the person to Chexsystems, which keeps a file on every person with a negative checking account history. When a new bank is found that will accept a checking account, Chexsystems will advise the bank of the person’s history when Deluxe receives the check order.
